The Church control
In 1598 the glorious dominance of the Este family ended when Alfonso II d’Este died leaving no heirs. Pope Clemente VIII used the opportunity to put Ferrara under the control of the Church-State. A slow decline at an artistic, economic, commercial and demographic level.
The decline
It begins the sad story of the Jewish ghetto establishment. During the Napoleonic domination, many religious orders were suppressed, and a major part of the Este family’s artistic heritage was moved from Ferrara to never return.
In 1860, the papal dominance was defeated and Ferrara united to the Italian Reign.

Meeting instructions:
– Airport: your driver will be waiting for you at the exit of the gate, holding a sign with your name on it. In Italy, drivers are not allowed to enter the baggage claim area
– Accommodation: your driver will look for you in the lobby of your hotel.
– Private apartment: meet your driver close to the main door, in the street.
– Piazzale Roma car terminal in Venice: detailed info and directions on your confirmation voucher.
Please note:
Being Venice an island, the pick up or drop off in Venice will be at Piazzale Roma Car terminal (cars cannot go further). The connections between the car terminal and the city center of Venice is guaranteed by private water taxis or a public water buses; detailed info and directions, upon booking.
