Fill your eyes with unique beauty in Cinque Terre from Livorno Port

Inaccessible until fairly recently, Cinque Terre have kept the charm that makes them so special. Besides using your private vehicle, it is also necessary to take the local train and/or boat services to move through the villages, as there is no coastal road to connect the villages!

What is Cinque Terre?

Five miles of spectacular rocky coast, two promontories. Thousands of kilometers of dry walls built on terraces cultivated with vineyards, five medieval fishing villages built on rock.
Now add the incredible colors of the sea and sky and you may understand what Cinque Terre is.

The villages

Cinque Terre means Five Lands and alludes to the beautiful five villages named Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso. Each is unique in its way, all part of a national park system protected by UNESCO since 1997.

This is our suggestion after many years of’ experimenting’, the perfect solution to maximize your time and enjoy this beautiful area with maximum comfort:

Riomaggiore village

Depart from your ship at Livorno Port and arrive in La Spezia, a journey through panoramic roads until Riomaggiore. Along this stretch of road, admire the Golfo di La Spezia, vineyards and lovely countryside.

Drop off in Riomaggiore, the first of the five villages (South). You have all the necessary info from your driver on how to use the train/boat, timetables, maps, etc and just enjoy these amazing lands.

The walking path that connects Riomaggiore to Manarola (Via dell’Amore, The Path of Love), is still closed for repairs after the flood. To reach Manarola we suggest going by train. Same suggestion from Manarola to Corniglia or directly to the 4th village called Vernazza.

Cornaglia village

Normally we suggest skipping Corniglia because it is the only one of the five towns not located directly on the coast (no pier). Naturally, if you are interested in visiting Corniglia you can do this from the train station at the bottom of the hill, there is a shuttle service (usually very crowded!) that goes up to the village.

If you are energic enough, you may want to climb up the 400 steps (and come down again!), but this takes up a lot of your time in Cinque Terre and we don’t recommend it.

Boat ride

Experience a boat ride, take a boat between Manarola and Vernazza, admire Corniglia and take pictures of village from the sea.

Wonder in Monterosso

The last stop of your private experience to Cinque Terre is in Monterosso. Visit the old part of the village, taste typical seafood in one of the many local restaurants. Or relax on the sandy beach of Fegina (newest part) and take a refreshing bath in the crystalline water of the Ligurian Sea.

Why private?

Last but not least: if you are on a big bus tour you have to go back and forth by train because buses are not authorized to drop you off at Riomaggiore and pick you up at Monterosso. Save time, stress and walking as your driver can pick you up directly in Monterosso and bring you back to your ship.

Your private day at Cinque Terre from Livorno Port ends with a comfortable ride back to the Cruiser Terminal.

Do you suggest adding a local guide to our Cinque Terre Tour?
It is totally up to you! An expert local guide can enrich your experience with history, facts, anecdotes. However, this itinerary is famous for its natural views, the particularity of the buildings on the cliff, not a museum where a guide can make the difference.

Can we reserve a local guide directly on-site, on the day?
Unfortunately, no! If you’d like to add this optional service, you must book it at the time of reservation or at least a few days in advance.

Is the private tour to Cinque Terre from Livorno, accessible for people with disability?
Unfortunately, no! Cinque Terre tour is not recommended for people with walking difficulties and wheelchair/scooters users, due to the morphologic nature of the area and the logistics of the itinerary.

How much walking is involved in the private tour to Cinque Terre?
This is not a hiking tour so you don’t need to be an expert hiker. You will move through the villages by local train/boat.

Therefore, the main walking would be from the train stations/piers to the center of the villages, plus the walking to visit the villages.

Is Via dell’Amore path open?
Via dell’Amore path connecting Riomaggiore to Manarola is still closed for repair works after the flood.

Are the train/boat tickets to move through the villages, included in the price?
Tickets are not included in the price because being a private service you are free to decide how to move through the villages, (train or boat) where to stop, etc.

What is the per person price of the train tickets?
Euro 4.00 per ride. If you go with our suggestion to visit 4 villages, you will need 3 tickets, for a total of Euro 12.00 per person.

How long are the train rides between the villages?
Between 2 to 4 minutes each.

What is the per person price of the boat tickets?
Riomaggiore – Manarola, Euro 6.00 per person
Manarola – Vernazza, Euro 10.00 per person
Vernazza – Monterosso, Euro 7.00 per person
If you do a boat ride you will save 1 train ticket

How long is the boat rides between the villages?
Approx. 15 minutes each.

Is the boat service running all year round?
The boat service normally runs (April to October) and is subject to weather/sea conditions.

Can we add a stop in Pisa to see the Leaning Tower, to the private Cinque Terre tour?
Yes, you can! This is one of the advantages of reserving a private tour: you can create your day! For more details, visit the ‘option‘ voice under the section included.
